Our board members play a vital role within a governing body that shapes our mission's direction and ensures its success. This governing board has legal and fiduciary responsibilities, sets strategic direction, secures resources, and monitors the organization's performance.
We ask the following commitments of members of our governing board:
- Term of Service: Board members can serve up to three consecutive two-year terms, fostering both continuity and fresh perspectives in our leadership.
- Meeting Attendance: Your presence at our monthly meetings, currently scheduled for the 2nd Tuesday of each month at 5:30 p.m., is essential. These meetings are where we collaborate, strategize, and oversee the organization's operations.
- Community Events Participation: We expect board members to attend shelter community events. Your presence not only highlights your support but also allows you to engage with the community we serve.
- Online Training Completion: All board members must complete an online training course provided by the Attorney General's Office. This training ensures everyone on the board understands the legal and ethical guidelines that govern our work.
- Mission Alignment: As a board member, you should fully support and be passionate about The Domestic Violence Shelter's mission. Your advocacy and decisions should always reflect this commitment and benefit those we serve.
- Conflict of Interest: Board members must avoid situations where personal interests could potentially conflict with the best interests of the organization. If such a situation arises, it should be disclosed and properly managed.
- Confidentiality: Board members must respect the confidentiality of sensitive information they have access to in their role. It's crucial to protect the privacy and dignity of those we serve and the integrity of our organization.
- Personal Donation: We ask each board member to make a meaningful personal donation. The amount isn't as important as the demonstration of your commitment and the encouragement it gives to others to contribute.
- Fundraising Efforts: Actively participating in finding donors and sponsors is a key responsibility. Your efforts in securing financial resources are integral to our shelter's sustainability.
- Committee Membership: Serving on one of our committees - Executive, Finance, Fundraising, Buildings, Personnel, or Nominating - is a requirement. Each committee plays a vital role in our organization's operations and success.
